CSA Week One
This summer is my first summer participating in a community supported agriculture program and yesterday evening was the first pick up. Basically, the program allows you to purchase a small share of a local farm for the season. Basically, you pay a flat fee for the growing season and each week the farm delivers your share to a drop off point. If the farm has a better than average year, then you get a little bit more and if the year is below average, then you would get a little less. Each farm sets theirs up a little differently. My CSA is with Delvin Farms, an organic farmer in College Grove, TN. Their growing season is 20 weeks and a full share is about a half a bushel of organic produce that has been picked that morning. I am very excited about this opportunity to be eating a little healthier and to be supporting a local farm.
The first week’s share included the following:
- Strawberries
- Baby Beets
- Lettuce
- Siberian Kale
- Red Russian Kale
